The spotlight is on HIT Network-Attached Blu-ray Libraries with NetApp Connector, providing up to 56TB of near-line storage, unlimited off-line storage, and a NetApp FAS Agent that offers "Tiered Storage" functionality and/or a secure backup of NetApp Filers onto permanent, unalterable Blu-ray media.

By transparently stubbing and migrating older files from expensive primary storage onto less expensive secondary storage devices such as a HIT Blu-ray library, the NetApp Connector software module addresses the economics of continually expanding disk arrays when more capacity is needed on a NetApp Filer.

In addition to storage tiering, the NetApp Connector provides the ability to "copy" files, as opposed to "stubbing and migrating" files, thereby creating a safe, secure backup of content stored on NetApp Filers onto Blu-ray Optical media, and offering far greater longevity over tape backup devices, as well as longevity over the NetApp Filer itself.

With respect to regulatory compliance for laws such as SEC 17a-4 and Sarbanes Oxley, the NetApp Connector allows organizations to make copies of data stored on their NetApp Filers onto Blu-ray media that cannot be altered or erased, to aid the legal discovery and review of data.
