EMC Disk Xtender

EMC DiskXtender (formerly OTG DiskXtender) is an optical jukebox manager that provides the full features and functionality of Hierarchical Storage Management to migrate data files from file server hard disk to DVD, Magneto-Optical, and UDO Optical jukeboxes on a Windows, UNIX or Linux network.

By providing a robust set of data migration rules and parameters, EMC DiskXtender becomes a powerful optical jukebox management tool will meet the requirements for any data storage application across any operating system.

EMC DiskXtender is recommended for the following data storage applications:

Regulatory Compliance
Using EMC DiskXtender with a DVD jukebox or Optical jukebox to store data on non-erasable, non-rewriteable media types such as CD-R, DVD-R, Magneto-Optical, and Ultra Density Optical to comply with regulatory requirements for data retention.

Data Archiving
Using EMC DiskXtender with a DVD jukebox or Optical jukebox for long-term storage of corporate data on secure, reliable, write-once media types, such as CD-R, DVD-R, Magneto-Optical, and Ultra Density Optical.

Secondary Storage
Using EMC DiskXtender with a DVD jukebox or Optical jukebox with re-writeable media types such as DVD-RAM, Magneto-Optical, and Ultra Density Optical, to store large volumes of information, and reduce storage and backup requirements on local server hard drives and disk arrays.

Some highlights of EMC DiskXtender include:

  • Flexible File Migration – Migrates files to Optical Media based on rules such as file size, file owner, file extension (.TIF, .PDF, .DOC), as well as date driven criteria such as creation date, modification date, or last access date.
  • Task Scheduler – Schedule tasks such as file migration, format media, copy disk, and media compaction (re-claim deleted space) at off-peak times of day.
  • Copy Disk – Automatically make backup copies of optical media on a scheduled basis such as nightly at 2 a.m. or once a week on Sunday at 2 a.m.
  • Disk Caching – Use server hard disk space to enhance read and write performance by serving requests for frequently read files directly from the cache and reducing media exchanges within the jukebox.
  • Remote Administration – Using the EMC DiskXtender remote administration module, media, volumes, and configuration parameters can be managed without having to physically be at the jukebox server.
  • Off-line Management – Media can be removed from the optical jukebox and files contained within are still referenced and available to the file system.
  • Reporting – Generate detailed reports including system configuration parameters, media usage, file migrations, and more.
